Thank you for your interest in the YouthLaunch Scholarship for Outstanding Service! Below are some frequently asked questions that you may find helpful in completing your application. Q. If I graduate in December of 2009, am I considered a post-graduate for the scholarship, and am I still required to complete the 100 hours of post-graduate service?

A. No. If you graduate in December, you will not be considered a post-graduate for the scholarship. You will not have to complete the 100 hours of post-graduate service.

Q. If I go overseas to conduct my service, does that count?

A. The hours you spent doing the service count, but the hours you spent traveling do not.

Q. Do I have to attend college in Texas?

A. No--however, you do need to have graduated from a Texas high school.

Q. Do applications submitted early have an advantage?

A. No - all applications must be postmarked by February 27, 2010. Applications submitted early will not have an advantage in the review process.

Q. May I count the hours I spent playing in a church band as service?

A. As stated in the application instructions, performing arts activities such as marching band, drill team, theater productions or choir activities do not count as service-unless the activity is service-oriented (e.g. planning and conducting a concert performance for a children's hospital). Thus, general hours spent playing in a band do not count, but special activities (such as planning and implementing a concert for a nursing home) do count as service hours.

Q. May I apply if I have completed less than 400 hours of service?

A. YouthLaunch does not consider applicants who have not completed the minimum number of service hours.

Q. If I graduated high school three years ago, can I still apply?

A. While YouthLaunch recognizes that there are many special circumstances that may delay high school graduates' application to college, for this scholarship YouthLaunch only considers applicants who have graduated high school between May '09 and June '10.
