Mary moved to Austin in April of 2010 to join Urban Roots as an Americorps VISTA. She received a Bachelor's degree in Italian and Art History from the University of Michigan in 2006. In college, a youth development internship for the Village of Arts and Humanities in Philadelphia opened her eyes to the great potential for personal growth through community service. Volunteer work on farms throughout Argentina fueled an interest in growing food and increasing access to fresh produce. Back in New York, she coordinated a gardening project and CSA for a low-income housing community by day and tossed dough for a family pizzeria in Brooklyn by night. She is inspired by the mission, farm interns, and staff of Urban Roots and looks forward to a year of service to the Austin community.
