Myra McRoy Constable, Program Coordinator, Youth Partnership for Change Send Myra an e-mail. Myra McRoy Constable received her Bachelor's degree in Human Development and The Family from Prairie View A & M University, and completed her Master's degree in Human Services from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. Throughout her professional career, Myra has always sought positions with organizations whose mission is to advocate for and empower youth and families. She has worked for The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in Child Care Licensing, the CEDEN Family Resource Center and as Program Manager for Communities in Schools (CIS) progam at Pearce Middle School. In 2006, Myra began working for YouthLaunch as Program Coordinator for Youth Partnership for Change, a prevention education program designed to raise awareness of the effects of alcohol on the adolescent brain. A personal tragedy also has had a tremendous influence on Myra's passion for trying to improve outcomes for children and youth, especially in terms of alcohol abuse prevention. On December 4, 1999, Myra's husband was killed in a one-car DWI collision after leaving a local Austin bar. At the age of 30, Myra instantly became a widow and a single mother of a 2 year old son. Soon after her husband's death, she sought support from a Victim Advocate for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Through this experience, Myra became determined to become
an advocate herself to help prevent other families from becoming victims of
alcohol related tragedies. She became a MADD volunteer, and later a Heart of Texas Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Board Member. Myra began to share her personal experience as a Volunteer Victim Impact Panel speaker to audiences of persons recently arrested for DWI. Now she frequently makes Dangers Without Intentions presentations, and guests lectures at local middle and high schools, various universities, including the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, on a variety of topics related to alcohol prevention. Myra is very passionate about helping youth and adults in the community to gain knowledge about and make informed choices concerning their use of alcohol and other substances.
